DAVID L. BEST, DDS, MD, FAAP
David Best, DDS, MD, FAAP is a board-certified, fellowship-trained oral and maxillofacial surgeon, with subspecialty training in pediatric cleft and craniofacial surgery. He treats both children and adults for problems regarding the head, neck, mouth, and jaws.
Dr. Best grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago, where he was a four-year scholarship athlete in NCAA Division 1 Men’s Golf. He then moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he completed his dental degree (D.D.S) at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He then stayed in Ann Arbor where he earned also earned a medical degree (M.D.) at the University of Michigan Medical School.
Following completion of dental and medical school, Dr. Best completed residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Michigan, which is regarded amongst the most prestigious training programs in the world. Following residency, Dr. Best moved to New York for fellowship, where he subspecialized in pediatric cleft and craniofacial surgery. During his fellowship, Dr. Best had the unique opportunity to train in both maxillofacial surgery and plastic surgery.
Although Dr. Best treats a wide variety of pediatric and adult conditions, his clinical focus is treating patients with jaw deformities (corrective jaw surgery), temporomandibular joint disorders, obstructive sleep apnea, and pediatric cleft and craniofacial anomalies. He also maintains a busy practice treating patients requiring tooth extractions and dental implants.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Best lectures nationally and internationally on topics in maxillofacial surgery and facial reconstructive surgery. He has also published numerous peer-reviewed research papers and book chapters.
Dr. Best actively participates in humanitarian surgical missions to treat patients with cleft lip and palate, as well as other craniofacial differences. His most recent volunteer missions were to Mexico and Guatemala.
In his time away from the office, Dr. Best enjoys golf, bass guitar, fitness, trying new restaurants, and spending time with his wife, Christine.
